The Imbruglia song was very big during my first year at university, and I love what Mr Armand does with it - almost pants-wettingly funny because it's so darned clever.

Although it must be remembered that birds can get visceral gout and die from it and perhaps diclofenac kept some birds healthy from having horrible wing podagra. Perhaps they should start feeding cows indomethacin.

Scuzzy bars are perfect for hockey. Anyways, you can always get the movie "Les Boys" from Netflix and that is pure hockey.

Rambling Rheumatologist:

A late reply. Funerals are a celebration and so it is good to feel joy or happiness at them. How nice to celebrate our connections to our loved one and ones who loved them. Good for you to write about it.

As to your irritations with your mother - I never found her extremely harsh - sometimes quick, sometimes wrong. it only shows she was wonderously human. It made her lovely qualities all the grander. I for one was not nearly so irritated by her love of talking and connecting - or at least attempting to. I love the memories of long talks at the kitchen table, wee into the hours of the morning, about my experiences, her thoughts about them, about life. How I miss that - long rambling conversations...with coffee and a good pastry.

your blog has inspired some interesting educational thoughts, should I ever get a classroom, or student, of my own again. Perhaps I will pay more attention to it from now on.
Cheers!

Here in Montreal the national newscast of the CBC is displaced by hockey for the entire playoffs. By the way, the Stanley Cup has been in the States since 1993 when Montreal last won it. It's time it returns to Canada and for this reason I am swallowing my pride and cheering for Ottawa.

Cows in India and on the rest of the subcontinent were given diclofenac as a veterinary drug for pain relief. In India cows are considered sacred and not slaughtered or eaten. Additionally, the vultures play an important roll as clean up crew, quickly scavenging carcasses of any animal. This was an efficient means of taking care of the dead and preventing the spread of disease. Since cows were given dicolfenac when they were ill or injured many died with the drug in their system. The scavenging vultures ingested the drug through the flesh of the cows and other livestock. Now dicolfenac has been baned for veterinary use in India and Nepal. But the vulture population has already crashed and feral dogs and disease are a major problem. You can find out more at the Peregrine Funds website on the Asian Vulture Crisis here:

Carpus,

Very nice summary of Connie's works.

FYI, Inside Job won the best Novella Hugo last year.

The story she wrote for the Space Cadets collection at LA Con IV, "D.A.", is being released as a separate release by Subterreanean Press next month. September is the Marble Arch collection (for which I'm reading an ARC of now).

There's a recent video interview (also available as an audio podcast) with Connie on Book Lust TV at http://www.seattlechannel.org/BookLust

Her next novel, "All Clear" is coming out next year and will be released in two parts. Hopefully I'll have more details soon.

PS, found your page via a Google alert for Connie Willis.
